Senior Maintenance Engineer




This is a multi-functional role on various contracts. It is predominantly a ‘hands on’ role but will include an element of supervising a colleague and various sub-contractors, liaising with the Customer on day to day activities.

To carry out all aspects of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), Reactive Maintenance, Project Works and liaise with our Help Desk in-hours and out of hours as required in accordance with both client and Vertex Building Services requirements.


  • Be responsible for the day to day running of the contract requirements and organising the site in order to meet the contractual agreement.
  • Assist in the preparation of emergency and contingency plans.
  • Maintain records appertaining to the PPM schedule and the emergency maintenance system.
  • Oversee all contract activities, both maintenance and projects and ensure all safety aspects are managed and monitored in accordance with site procedures and requirements.
  • Undertake tasks associated with staff during peak workloads and provide holiday and sickness cover if and where necessary.
  • Staff supervision including all full-time, part-time, sub-contractors and specialist providers.
  • Take ownership of the client’s needs and pursue effective communications with the customer in order to build a stable relationship.
  • Be proactive with regard to preventative maintenance and extra works.
  • Operate Vertex Building Services QA procedures and maintain clear and legible records as required.
  • Be available to attend or manage emergency call-outs and provide written incident reports as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of works done and expenditure, using this information to report to the Supervisor on a weekly basis.
  • Co-operate with Vertex Building Services office support staff providing information as required.

Senior Maintenance Engineer



  • City & Guilds Parts 1 and 2 (Electrical Installation 2360)

18th Edition Institute of Electrical Engineers (I.E.E) Registration or

Electrical Apprenticeship – gained within the building maintenance industry OR

  • NVQ Level 2-3 (Mechanical Discipline e.g. Heating and Ventilating 6018)



  • Membership to the Institute of Safety and Health (IOSH) or equivalent



  • Two years experience gained within a maintenance environment in a senior role
  • A good working knowledge of trades such as– Plumbing; HVAC systems and Refrigeration
  • Sound Mechanical and/or electrical knowledge
  • Experience in computer PPM management systems (Concept)
  • Fault diagnosis experience
  • Be conversant with current Health and Safety legislation with relevance to safe working practices.
  • Sound level of administration/organisational skills


  • Five years experience gained within a maintenance environment in a senior role
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft packages i.e. word, excel
  • Prior experience with Permit to Work (PTW) Sytstems
  • Use of CAFM systems such as Concept Evolution and/or eLogbook’s
