The Benefits of Working in Hospitality
What does Tom Hanks, Lady Gaga and Madonna have in common? Apart from being millionaires, they all have worked in the hospitality industry in the past before making it big.
The hospitality industry is currently facing a staffing shortage and a quick search on Indeed confirms this with just over 3,700 waiter roles available in central London alone. Hospitality is often overlooked by jobseekers but there are many benefits to working in the industry, which I’m going to share with you in this article.
1. Not just Front of House
Working in customer service may not be your long-term goal but it’s a great gateway into the industry. Hospitality has a wide range of roles from entry-level positions in customer service, to mid-level management positions, all the way to office and central management roles. Often businesses like to hire and develop staff from within, so use an entry-level role as your first step onto a career ladder and network with everyone within the business.
2. Flexibility
Are you currently working on a creative project? Looking to study? Hospitality can be a great industry to keep yourself afloat whilst completing your other life plans. Zero hours contracts often get a lot of negative publicity but for some, it can be a godsend. You can choose if you want/need to work when it suits you and don’t have to worry about letting your employer down. Alternatively, some businesses have weekend/evening only contracts which may suit someone who’s a student or working another job.
3. Immediate Starts
If you’re ready to get stuck in to work and start earning, then this is the perfect industry. There will always be entry level roles available in the industry and often organisations will offer bi-weekly pay, so you could have your first paycheck in no time!
4. Transferrable Skills
You might be thinking about a role in hospitality but it’s not aligning with your long-term goals – no problem! You will learn some invaluable life skills from the industry. From building rapport to boosting your confidence, you will be able to transfer these skills towards any position in the future.
5. Discounted Goodies
Who doesn’t love work perks?! Each company differs but most will offer service/tips/TRONC which can boost your pay up quite substantially. Along with this, there is often discounted food, free food on your shift and work social events.
Whether you’re looking for a stopgap job or looking to start a career, the hospitality industry has thousands of live vacancies in a variety of roles with immediate starts available. Check out our website www.kxrecruit.co.uk and get applying!
