T-Level in Action: Gaining Real-World Experience at KX Recruit

At KX Recruit (KXR), we are committed to supporting young talent and helping the next generation of professionals gain valuable industry experience. Our first ever T-Level student, Ibrahim, has been thriving in his placement with us, gaining hands-on skills in business administration while contributing to the success of KXR. We interviewed Ibrahim to discuss his experience of undertaking a T-Level qualification at KXR.

What is a T-Level?

A T-Level is a qualification designed to provide students with real-world work experience, combining classroom learning with an industry placement. Unlike A-Levels, which are predominantly academic, T-Levels allow students to develop practical skills by working in a business environment. Our student, who is completing a Business & Administration T-Level, has been working as a Business Support Assistant at KXR for 45 days as part of their course.

Why Choose a T-Level?

For Ibrahim, the appeal of a T-Level was clear:

“I wanted to get hands-on experience and put my skills into the real world of work.”

This approach has allowed them to develop not just technical skills but also professional behaviors essential for future employment.

Key Skills and Learning Outcomes

During his T-Level, Ibrahim has gained a broad range of skills and knowledge, including but not limited to:

  • Understanding business legislation and workplace expectations
  • Using industry tools such as Mailchimp, WordPress, and Canva
  • Problem-solving and office relocation planning
  • Professional communication, including email etiquette and customer interactions
  • Event planning and execution
  • Health and safety compliance

“I now understand how businesses function and the behaviours that are acceptable at work.”

Experience at KX Recruit

The placement at KX Recruit has definitely been a transformative experience.

“It’s been enjoyable and different! If I wasn’t here, I would never have had this experience. Being in a recruitment company helps you see a different side of things – how people get jobs, how the process works, and how to handle sensitive information whilst considering data protection.”

Some of the key projects Ibrahim has contributed to thus far include:

  • Writing newsletters and job updates
  • Creating and posting social media content
  • Writing blogs for our website
  • Attending recruitment events and job fairs
  • Helping organize and execute KX Recruit-hosted events
  • A particularly unique experience was being involved in an office relocation:

“Being part of such a big change in a business is quite rare, so it was great timing that this happened within my T-Level so I could see that process and help with the move.”

Developing Professional Skills

One of the biggest takeaways for Ibrahim has been the development of professional workplace skills.

“It’s important to be a professional person in a professional workplace, so I’ve had to learn that on the job by following the team’s lead.”

Like many students entering the workforce for the first time, he faced initial challenges:

“The first week I was here, I felt really shy, but over time I’ve expressed myself more and realised how friendly the team is. It’s okay to still be yourself at work.”

Career Aspirations and Future Plans

The placement at KX Recruit has had a significant impact on our student’s career outlook:

“It’s changed how I see the world of working. In school, everyone is a similar age and comes from similar backgrounds, but at work, everyone is different. That’s important to keep in mind when dealing with people.”

Ibrahim’s time with us has also influenced his career goals to some degree:

“Before I was at KXR, I wasn’t really interested in recruitment companies, but KXR is different from what you expect, and it’s changed my way of thinking. I definitely want to work in a job that helps people or has social value. I like that a job can give back to my local community.”

Advice for Future T-Level Students

For students considering a T-Level, Ibrahim’s advice is simple:

“Do what’s best for you, but I’d definitely recommend a T-Level. The reason I was attracted to it was to improve my job skills and get more experience than others. If I’d just done A-Levels, I wouldn’t have as many skills as I’m learning here.”

What’s Next?

Looking ahead, Ibrahim hopes to secure an apprenticeship, though he is keeping an open mind about which path to take:

“It depends on how I feel when that time comes and what my skills and my heart are most aligned to.”

At KX Recruit, we are proud to support T-Level students in developing their skills and gaining meaningful work experience. This program provides a vital bridge between education and the professional world, preparing students for successful careers. We look forward to continuing our work with T-Level students and seeing the positive impact they make in the workplace.
