Local Opportunity to Lasting Impact at The King’s Cross Group

For Fahmida, building a career has never been about following a straight path. It has been about adapting, embracing new opportunities and staying resilient when plans changed. That determination has led her to The King’s Cross Group, where a local opportunity through KX Recruit has become the start of something much bigger.

Now, after making a strong impact as an Office Assistant, Fahmida has had her contract extended through to December. This is recognition of both her contribution and the value of connecting local talent with the right role.

Fahmida began working at just 17, taking on babysitting jobs before the Covid-19 pandemic reshaped her plans. While studying at university, she balanced two part-time roles: working as a personal assistant to a make-up artist and as a sales consultant representing luxury beauty brands including Givenchy and Estée Lauder. The combination demanded organisation, adaptability and confidence, while helping her develop the customer service and administrative skills that would become the foundation of her career.

After graduating, she secured her first full-time role with student accommodation provider The Stay Club. What began as a front-of-house position quickly evolved. Within eight months, she had earned a promotion, taking responsibility for bookings, conducting property viewings and communicating with clients across four sites. It was an early sign of her ability to grow quickly when in the right environment.

Eventually, for personal reasons, Fahmida made the decision to step away from the role.

“It was just something I needed to do for myself,” she explains.

When she was ready to return to work, she turned to those closest to her for advice. Her mother suggested KX Recruit and Good Work Camden, knowing their reputation for helping local residents find meaningful employment.

“I thought it sounded perfect,” Fahmida says, “I live in Camden and I could see both were focused on helping local people.”

Not long afterwards, she spotted an Office Assistant vacancy with The King’s Cross Group on the KX Recruit website. The role immediately stood out. It matched her experience, was close to home and felt like the fresh start she had been looking for.

The search for work had not always been so positive. Like many jobseekers, Fahmida had experienced lengthy recruitment processes involving multiple interviews and assessments, only to be unsuccessful at the final stage.

“It’s really deflating,” she admits. “You put so much into it for weeks, only to feel defeated at the end.”

Her experience with KX Recruit was different from the beginning.

“Working with Niamh at KX Recruit made all the difference,” she recalls. “I had to cancel my first interview due to a family emergency, and she was so quick to rearrange it. I actually felt seen for once.”

For Niamh, Recruitment Manager at KX Recruit, Fahmida was a standout candidate from the outset.

“From our very first conversation, Fahmida came across as someone who was proactive, thoughtful and genuinely motivated. She had a great mix of administration, customer service and organisational experience, but what really stood out was her attitude. Even after experiencing setbacks during her job search, she remained positive and determined. We were confident she’d be a great fit for The King’s Cross Group, and it’s been fantastic to see her settle in so well and now have her contract extended.”

Communication was consistent throughout the process, and the simplicity of the recruitment stood in stark contrast to her previous experiences.

“There was only one interview, which really surprised me, and I heard back quickly too. It helped ease the anxiety.”

That interview with The King’s Cross Group’s Rosemary and Ross left a lasting impression.

“They explained how my role would fit into that vision and even asked me what I wanted to contribute. It made me feel like a valued part of the team before I’d even started.”

For Rosemary, who interviewed Fahmida alongside Ross, her preparation, understanding of the role and connection to the local area immediately stood out.

“KX Recruit supported us throughout the recruitment process, helping us identify the best candidates, coordinating interviews and communicating the job offer to the successful applicant.”

“Fahmida gave thoughtful answers at interview, demonstrating a good understanding of the qualities required for the role. We were delighted to recruit a new Office Assistant who lived locally and appreciated the purpose of the Estate.”

When Niamh called to offer her the role, Fahmida knew she had found the opportunity she had been hoping for.

“The process was so smooth and simple. It just felt right.”

Since joining The King’s Cross Group, Fahmida has quickly become a valued member of the team. In her role, she has taken responsibility for managing diaries, preparing meeting rooms, welcoming visitors and supporting the organisation of company events.

Rosemary has seen first-hand the difference Fahmida has made since joining the team.

“Fahmida has been a great asset to our office, providing much-needed administrative support.”

Her contribution has not gone unnoticed. Following her strong performance and the way she has settled into the team, Fahmida has recently been offered an extension to her contract through to December. Alongside this, she has also been given the option to broaden her experience by supporting both the IT and Finance teams.

“I was really happy. It felt reassuring to know that the team had confidence in me and wanted me to stay. Having my contract extended felt like recognition that I was doing a good job.”

“They told me they were happy with how I’d settled into the role and wanted me to get involved with more areas of the business. It’s exciting because I’ll be learning new skills and getting a better understanding of how different teams work together. By the end of the year, I’d love to look back and know I’ve made a real contribution across the organisation while continuing to grow professionally.”

Beyond the role itself, Fahmida has found a workplace where she feels supported and balanced.

“I can leave at 5 and leave the job in the office. It’s such a relief.”

She has also found a workplace where support comes naturally.

“Everyone in The King’s Cross Group team is welcoming. If I need help at work or time out for a personal appointment, they understand.”

For Fahmida, working in King’s Cross has an added significance. Having lived in the area when she was younger, returning as part of the organisation helping to shape its future feels particularly meaningful.

“I lived here when I was younger,” she says, “so seeing how much the area has changed and being part of it now is surreal. There’s such a strong community vibe. Ross mentioned in the interview how important that is to them, and I could really relate.”

The experience has been so positive that Fahmida now recommends KX Recruit to others locally.

“I always tell people to check KX Recruit out, especially if they live locally. The team is genuinely here to help.”

Her advice is simple:

“Just go for it. The jobs page is updated all the time, and the process is so straightforward. Honestly, I didn’t stress once.”

For Fahmida, what began as a search for a new opportunity has become the start of a new chapter. With growing responsibilities, a contract extension and the chance to continue developing her skills, she is building a career rooted in confidence, open-mindedness and community.
